The CCOO trade union have announced that Arrecife Bus/Intercity Bus will be expanding their staff and the fleet of vehicles in the near future to accommodate the rise in usage and address the lack of staff issue.
The trade union reported that after several meetings, Arrecife Bus has agreed to expand its workforce and introduce four new buses (two of which will be immediately introduced.)
The union detailed that the bus company has agreed to introduce two new vehicles “as a matter of urgency”, including two additional vehicles which will be introduced in the first quarter of the year.
CCOO representative, Ricardo Hernandez, stated last month that the delays are due to the fact that there are insufficient drivers, vehicles and timetables to meet the demands of the public.
In the past six months the situation has been made worse by the introduction of free us transport for regular users, which has increased demand and led to some drivers being called into work on their days off. The return of tourism has also increased demand for buses.
