Arrecife is consulting local residents and businesses about new bye-laws that would govern the exterior facades of buildings in the city.

Suggestions will be received until mid-December and taken into account when the new laws are drafted.

Mayor Astrid Pérez said there was a “heterogeneity” in the facades of buildings in the town centre that required an update of the aesthetic conditions. She also said that similar rules would apply to industrial zones, which currently have an “arbitrary” aspect.

The plans for industrial zones would affect Altavista (where IKEA is situated) and Argana Alta (near the hospital), and probably introduce similar rules to those that have applied in Playa Honda for a few years, requiring businesses to change their facades to a black, white and grey colour scheme.
