Yaiza’s distinctive red taxis will raise their fares for the first time in six years after the Ayuntamiento approved the measure yesterday.
The standard daytime rate for each kilometre travelled will rise from 0.63 to 0.75 cents, while the night-time rate will rise to 0.80 cents.
The flag drop fee – charged before any journey – will be €2.70 from 6 am to 10 pm, and €3.40 at night-time.
The basic waiting rate, which applies to stationery or slow-moving taxis, will rise from €124 top €15.40 (€17 at night).
The fare rises come in response to the increasing price of petrol, and have been requested by cabbies for several months. In August this year, Tias and Arrecife also also raised taxi fares.
There are currently 67 taxis operating in Yaiza, 12 of which are adapted for those with special needs.
