Two more statues to be removed

The Cabildo yesterday confirmed that it would be sending a crane-boat to the Atlantic Museum to remove another two statues “in the next days or weeks”. The statues are depictions of the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud, which could not be identified on Saturday night when the first two statues were removed.

An opinion poll published yesterday predicts increased votes for the two main national parties on the Canaries, with the Socialists likely to be the most-voted party on the islands.

Statue explanation

The head of Lanzarote's CACT's (Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism), Benjamin Perdomo, yesterday confirmed that the statues removed from the Atlantic Museum at the weekend were depictions of the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud, a close associate of ex-Cabildo President Pedro San Ginés; and said that “the image of the island and the CACTs cannot be linked to a person who is charged with theft of public funds.”

Cooler weather ahead

Lanzarote will experience cooler weather as the week progresses, according to Spain's weather agency AEMET.
