Yellow Heat Alert Extended Until Tuesday

The yellow heat alert issued by AEMET, Spain’s weather agency, has been extended to Tuesday, when maximum temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius could be possible. A yellow alert is also in place today (Monday 3^rd August.)

The alert will apply between the hours of 11am and 8pm.  However, Lanzarote has not been as badly affected by the heatwave as other parts of the Canary Islands. On Gran Canaria, the first red alert of the year has been issued for temperatures approaching 40 degrees.

Winds will continue to comb Lanzarote, although they will not be as strong as those of the weekend, when gusts of almost 90 kph were registered at the airport. Conditions are forecast to return to normal summer weather from Wednesday, with temperatures in the high 20s and brisk alisio winds from the north.
