Tinajo has announced the full programme for the fiestas of Los Dolores, Lanzarote’s most important local fiesta.

The fiestas celebrate Lanzarote’s only official miracle, when the Virgin Mary is believed to have halted a flow of lava that threatened to engulf the village during the eruptions of 1730-1736.

Mayor Jesús Machín said “From today, everyone must come to Tinajo. You will be welcomed with open arms.”

Wednesday, September 9th. The funfair will open from 6:30pm to 8:45pm for an inclusive day dedicated to children and young people with autism spectrum disorder. The fair will be open each evening, although precise times have not been given.

At 8:00pm, the opening address of the festivities will be given by Dr. María Teresa Godoy Suárez, representing the workers of the Canary Islands Health Service. Following the address, the group Calicanto will perform, and at 9:30pm, the group Bohemia will give a concert.

Thursday, September 10th, at 5:30pm, the 36th edition of the Craft Fair will be inaugurated. The fair will be open The fair will remain open from 10am until 9.30pm from the 11th to the 15th of September.

Friday, September 11th, 9pm: Nanino Díaz Cutillas Folk Meeting, featuring traditional Canarian music from all seven major Canary Islands.

Saturday, September 12: This is the big day when thousands of pilgrims in traditional dress arrive at the square. Offerings will be presented at 6pm, followed by the Romero Dance.

Sunday, September 13, 6:00pm: Concert by the group La Trova.

Monday, September 14, 8:00pm: Merengazo Joven (Young Merengue Festival).

Tuesday, September 15th, 9:00pm: Grand Closing Concert featuring Spanish star Malú, followed at by a fireworks display at 11:30pm.
