Domestic tourism from Spain has increased by over 30% compared with the last year before the pandemic, recent figures from AENA show.

The figures for the second quarter of 2023 show a substantial increase in Spanish visitors compared to both last year and the pre-pandemic period. International tourism has also increased, by 4.2% compared to 2019 and 6.6 % compared to the second quarter of 2022.

Spanish tourism was only seriously affected during the strictest months of the Covid restrictions on Lanzarote, as rules generally permitted travel within national borders. It seems that this may have nourished a taste for Lanzarote among mainland Spaniards.
