Travel agents have complained that SES. Hospedajes, the online platform where data collected for the Travellers’ Register must be sent, collapsed on its first day of operation yesterday.

The platform was down for a period on Monday morning, but is now working normally, according to the Ministry of the Interior, who introduced the platform in order to tackle crime more easily.

Hotels and car hire firms have been required to register clients’ details for several decades in Spain, but the new online method is aimed at including new models of business such as holiday rentals, online rental platforms and booking sites.

Travel agents have complained that the requirements will increase the workload of businesses, will not increase security and may damage Spain’s competitiveness as a tourist destination.
