“Suavamente – BE-SA-ME!” – if you’ve ever been to a carnival or fiesta on Lanzarote, you’ll have heard the Puerto-Rican singer Elvis Crespo begging you to kiss him softly. Several times, probably.
Recorded in 1998, the incredibly catchy merengue is a perennially popular party hits throughout Spain and Latin America. Crespo went on to have further hits in a similar style .
Now, according to La Voz de Lanzarote, there are strong rumours that Yaiza Ayuntamiento has invited Crespo to perform at the carnival in Playa Blanca next Saturday. If true, it would guarantee a hugely popular finale to Lanzarote’s 2026 carnival season.
Nevertheless, it won’t be the first time Elvis has visited Lanzarote. He performed to a big crowd in Haría in the summer of 2013.
