Our readers regularly send us messages and emails regarding Lanzarote, here are some of your thoughts that we printed in the April edition.

ROUGH RIDE

Dear Editor, With response to your article in the February edition of the Gazette regarding 2.2 Million Euros being spent on the footpath between the Hotel Embajador and the La Sal complex in Playa Blanca.

We have been coming to Playa Blanca for over 25 years, we were then able to walk about but for the last few years we have hired Mobility Scooters.

My wife and I are now of the opinion that the older council officials should take some trips on Mobility Scooters and then they will find where the money might be better spent.

In particular they should try the path between Playa Blanca Port and Playa Flamingo. The nearer one gets to Playa Flamingo the path is unbelievably rough.

Also the pavement edges are a nightmare on a Mobility Scooter, as not many have dropped kerbs.

The path around the new Port Harbour wall was a good smooth ride but this has been closed for a year now [February 2025].

We feel that Los Hervideros should be renovated, as so many visitors like it. Money should be spent on renovating existing attractions rather than spent on creating new ventures.

Robert & Christine Capstick.

GET WET

Dear Gazette,

We’re coming to Costa Teguise in April and would like to try snorkelling. Which are the best beaches, and will the water be warm enough?

Dan and Amy S

Ed: The best and safest beach for snorkelling in Costa Teguise is Playa de Jablillo. Playa Bastián and Playa El Ancla are also good, but make sure conditions are calm. The water’s still a bit nippy in April, but it’s fine once you’re in. A shorty wetsuit or rashguard may be a good idea if you want to spend a lot of time in the water. Have fun!

CARNIVAL 2027

Dear Gazette,

Do you have carnival dates for next year? We’d love to see the parades, but would like to book well in advance.

Michael and Denise Walker

Ed: If the pattern of previous years is followed, the most likely dates for the main parades are as follows:

Arrecife: Monday 8th Feb

Puerto del Carmen: Sat 13th Feb

Costa Teguise: Sat 27th Feb

Playa Blanca: Sat 6th March

LOCUST FEARS

Dear Editor,

Are there still locusts on the island? We saw the swarm on your Facebook page and really don’t want to find ourselves attacked by creepy crawlies.

Deanna Clay

Ed: They’ve all gone now, Deanna. The swarm was a rare event in one remote part of the island, and many people here didn’t see a single locust.
