Playa Blanca will continue its patron saint celebrations tomorrow, Sunday July 19, with the town’s traditional maritime procession in honour of Our Lady of Carmen, one of the most anticipated events of the annual festival.
The day’s celebrations will begin with 12:00 p.m. Mass, after which the statue of the Virgin will be carried to Playa Blanca’s small beach and placed aboard a boat to lead a procession at sea. Organisers expect more than 50 fishing and recreational vessels to take part, creating a colourful display along the coastline in tribute to the patron saint of sailors.
Following the procession on the water, the Virgin will return to the same beach before being taken back to the church. Throughout the event, the Marinera Los Buches band will provide traditional music from the shoreline, adding to the atmosphere of one of Lanzarote’s most cherished religious and maritime traditions.
The festivities will continue well into the afternoon. Son del Norte will perform near the beach huts from 2:00 p.m., while rock bands DeLorean and Salvapantallas are scheduled to take to the stage from 4:00 p.m.
Football fans will also be able to gather in the town square later in the evening, where the World Cup final will be shown live on a giant screen from 8:00 p.m.
The maritime procession remains one of the highlights of Playa Blanca’s annual Fiesta of Our Lady of Carmen, drawing residents and visitors alike to celebrate the town’s deep-rooted connection with the sea and its long-standing fishing heritage.
