Lanzarote’s Cabildo has announced the establishment of a new Area for Animal Welfare which will be led by Cabildo employee Ruymán Duarte.
The new area was an electoral pledge made by President Oswaldo Betancort before his election in May. The Animal Welfare Area will co-ordinate with local councils, animal welfare groups, hunting associations and other interested parties.
Among the first priorities of the area is the issue of colonies of feral cats on the island.
