Rescue professionals from around the world have arrived on Lanzarote this week for the World Rescue Challenge which will begin at Playa de Los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen tomorrow.

President of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, presented the World Rescue Challenge this Monday in the Castillo de San José in Arrecife:

“The Cabildo supports all initiatives of this type, which help, and a lot, to promote out tourist destination and position it internationally as a spot for these types of sporting events.”.

“Thank you [to those that organised the event] for such essential work, always very professional, and thank you also for the continuous training, which is what this event represents and offers, because this way the service you provide is always as efficient as possible”, stated Betancort on Monday.

President of the World Rescue Organisation (WRO), Paul Schroeder, highlighted the importance of the event stating that “safety cannot and should not end once the accident has been attended. Every year, 1.3 million lives are lost in emergency situations and another 50 million people are injured.”.

“This figure underscores the far-reaching importance of events such as the one that brings us together this month, where professionals from 28 nations, spanning five continents, congregate. Our objective is clear: to ensure that all those involved in rescuing people not only maintain, but improve and perfect their skills”, Schroeder added in closing.
