Lanzarote’s Water Consortium yesterday voted unanimously to expel Canal Gestión from all the facilities it has been operating since 2012.

“We will notify Canal Gestión that no contract exists and we will assume direct control of management of the water supply,” announced Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort.  The Consortium has demanded that the Madrid-owned company grant access and hand over keys to all facilities from 8 am on June 2nd.

The Consortium also demands delivery of customer databases and other information held by the private water supplier.

The decision marks a new phase in the breakdown of relations between the island’s institutions and Canal Gestión, and is likely to draw a vigorous response from the company.
