The Lanzarote Cabildo has unveiled its first fully updated Wine Guide at Salón Gourmets 2026. The launch took place at the Saborea Lanzarote booth and was led by Armando Santana, the councillor for Hospitality and Commerce.
“It is a true honour to present to you a very special initiative that we have developed within the Department of Hospitality and Commerce: our first wine guide, dedicated to highlighting the 34 wineries currently producing wine in Lanzarote,” Santana said during his remarks.
The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted how the guide “showcases one of the most unique pillars of our island: its wine sector”. He stressed its importance not only economically but also culturally and in terms of the landscape, in a territory recognised by the FAO as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.
Nori Machín, the Regional Minister for Economic Development, described the guide as “a key tool for continuing to open up markets and strengthening the presence of our wines in high-end channels”, in line with the marketing strategy promoted by the Cabildo.
Each winery in detail
The publication was created with a clear commitment to inclusivity, giving a voice to “all wineries, regardless of size or age”. Each receives a dedicated two-page spread detailing its history, production methods, grape varieties, wine selections and a descriptive tasting note for one of its wines.
Santana highlighted the support of international figures such as the prestigious British critic Tim Atkin, Master of Wine, and the specialised journalist David Schwarzwalder. Their work has helped position Lanzarote wines in influential European publications including Meiningers Sommelier, Weinwirtschaft and Weinwelt.
Beyond the winery directory, the guide delves into the history of wine in Lanzarote, its unique cultivation methods and the close relationship between the volcanic landscape and the island’s cultural identity. “This effort reflects a new commitment by our administration to Lanzarote’s wines, especially those of small producers,” the minister emphasised. He also announced future grant programmes to facilitate the participation of local wineries in national and international trade fairs.
Along the same lines, he announced that the promotional strategy will continue in June with an event in Hamburg aimed at industry professionals.
The guide comes in a handy size of 21 by 12 centimetres and includes a detailed map of the island showing the location of all the wineries. It will be available in English, in digital format, and likely in other languages in the future.
