The Cabildo will run an educational campaign in secondary schools across Lanzarote between October 2026 and February 2027 to raise awareness of the distress caused to animals by firecrackers and fireworks.

The initiative, called “The Noise You Can’t See,” will target students in the first and second years of secondary school, highlighting the effects of loud explosions on pets and wildlife.

The campaign will focus on the fear, suffering and stress that fireworks noise can cause in domestic animals, as well as urban and wild fauna. It will encourage students to consider how changes to individual leisure habits can help create safer and more considerate public spaces.

Dogs in the classroom

Dogs will play a central role in the classroom activities, helping students explore concepts including empathy, calmness, active listening and collective responsibility.

The workshops will encourage pupils to reflect on how their own recreational choices can directly affect the health and wellbeing of animals around them. The programme also aims to promote a culture of prevention by bringing animal protection and respect into the school environment.

Each session will last approximately 50 minutes and will be delivered to individual classes or groups. Classes will not be combined, allowing the activities to remain interactive and adapted to the needs of participating students.
