Lanzarote resident Carlos Javier Murgas Hernández has been confirmed as another fatality in the Venezuela earthquakes that occurred last week. Family members communicated the tragic news to La Voz de Lanzarote yesterday.

Murgas Hernández had lived on Lanzarote for 20 years with his family and was visiting his native country when the earthquake hit, destroying the building he was staying in La Guaira.

The Venezuelan earthquakes, which have caused over 1,700 deaths to date, have caused huge distress among the long-standing Venezuelan community in the Canaries, and appeals have been launched to assist victims.

If you would like to donate medical supplies, personal hygiene items, footwear (but not clothes), sheets, blankets or baby care products, they can be left at the Venezolanos Unidos office in Arrecife, C/Bolivia 9, from 10 am to 9pm.
