Lanzarote Records 1.7 Million Visitors in First Half of 2026

Lanzarote welcomed around 1.7 million tourists during the first six months of 2026, a figure almost identical to the same period last year.

Between January and June, the island received approximately 5,000 fewer visitors than in the first half of 2025, but several European markets posted growth while arrivals from the Nordic countries fell.

Italy recorded the strongest increase, with visitor numbers rising by 23%. A total of 55,891 Italian tourists visited Lanzarote during the first half of 2026, up from 42,869 during the same period last year.

Germany also showed signs of recovery, with arrivals increasing by 17%. Visitor numbers climbed from around 145,000 in the first six months of 2025 to nearly 170,000 this year, although the market remains well below the levels seen in previous decades.

The island’s three largest markets, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands, remained largely stable. Between January and June, Lanzarote welcomed 884,720 visitors from the UK, 193,157 from Ireland and 43,922 from the Netherlands.

Belgium also registered healthy growth, matching Germany’s 17% increase. Belgian arrivals rose from 26,704 in the first half of 2025 to 31,404 during the same period this year.

The most significant decline came from the Nordic countries. Visitor numbers dropped by 44%, falling from 57,790 in the first six months of 2025 to just 32,131 this year.

France also experienced a downturn, with arrivals decreasing by 6.4%. French visitor numbers fell from 119,509 to 112,309 year-on-year.

Domestic tourism saw a modest decline of 2.4%, with arrivals through Spanish airports slipping from 140,366 to 136,964.

Meanwhile, the category covering all other international markets recorded a 14.8% decrease. A total of 78,881 visitors from countries outside the main listed markets travelled to Lanzarote during the first half of 2026, compared with 92,608 during the same period in 2025.
