Arrecife’s carnival parade, the first and largest of several events that will take place over the coming weekends, will begin at 6pm this evening.

Although the parade will depart from the Ciudad Polideportivo – the Sports Stadium well-known to football fans – it will take a different route from usual, heading past the Open Mall Shopping Centre and ending up at the Agramar buildings at Puerto Naos.

As a result, bus stops on this stretch will be closed from 2pm until 10 pm this evening. This will affect all buses that stop at the bus station and particularly Lines 3 and 1 to Costa Teguise. Buses will still operate, but via a different route.

Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort has called for taxi operators across the island to “collaborate” with the event, after many people who attended the daytime carnival concerts on Saturday faced long waits for taxis.

Weather is predicted to be warm for February, with a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and no prospect of rain.
