The Lanzarote Cabildo has opened its 2026 grant programme for women affected by gender-based violence, allocating more than €101,700 to provide urgent financial assistance aimed at supporting protection, independence, and recovery.
The initiative combines €70,000 from the Cabildo’s own budget with an additional €31,729.75 from the Canary Islands Social Emergency Fund. Funding will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants until the available budget has been fully allocated.
Marci Acuña, Councillor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, described the grants as a vital tool for responding quickly to women facing particularly vulnerable situations as a result of gender-based violence. She said the programme reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to ensuring that women have access to the support needed to rebuild their lives and regain their independence.
Grants may be paid directly to beneficiaries or their legal representatives. Alternatively, payments can be made directly to professionals, organisations, or service providers delivering support to the recipient.
Applications will be accepted until 1 December 2026. Documents can be submitted through the Cabildo’s Social Welfare Department or the General Registry.
Grant decisions are expected to be issued by 15 December 2026, with approved funds transferred by bank payment either to the beneficiary or, where appropriate, directly to the provider of the subsidised service.
The Cabildo said the programme is intended to deliver immediate assistance to women experiencing social emergencies linked to gender-based violence, helping them access essential services and resources that improve their living conditions while supporting their recovery.
