Lanzarote Airport has relaunched the tender process for the construction of a new VIP lounge after a previous attempt failed to attract a successful contractor. The project’s budget has been increased to almost €2.9 million, up from the €2.23 million allocated in the earlier tender.
Interested companies have until 15th June to submit their bids. If the process proceeds as planned, the contract could be awarded and signed during the second half of the year.
The project is expected to take up to 12 months to complete, matching the timetable outlined in the original tender published at the end of last year.
Larger Facility to Meet Growing Demand
The planned VIP lounge will significantly expand the airport’s premium passenger facilities. Airport authorities note that current traffic levels are far higher than when the main Guacimeta terminal opened in 1999. At that time, passenger numbers were roughly half of those anticipated by the end of this year.
The new lounge will provide approximately 600 square metres of usable floor space. The works will include the demolition of part of the existing food court area and the creation of a new vertical access core featuring stairs and a lift, allowing separate entry routes.
