A Jet2 aircraft carried out a routine go-around at César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport on Sunday, May 31st, a standard aviation manoeuvre that is occasionally performed when pilots decide that continuing with a landing approach is not the safest option.

The manoeuvre, involving flight LS11DF arriving from Birmingham, was captured by Lanzarote Webcam’s cameras and later shared on its social media channels.

The footage shows the aircraft discontinuing its approach and climbing away from the runway. In aviation, this procedure is known as a go-around or missed approach and is a normal part of pilot training and airline operations. Pilots may carry out a go-around for a variety of reasons, including weather conditions, runway occupancy, approach stability, or simply as a precaution to ensure a safe landing.

Lanzarote Webcam highlighted that the aircraft’s tail appeared to come close to the ground during the manoeuvre, something visible in the video. However, go-arounds are carefully planned procedures that allow pilots to safely regain altitude and reposition for another landing attempt.

A missed approach is a standard safety measure used throughout the aviation industry. When conditions are not ideal for landing, pilots apply power, climb away from the runway, and either make another approach or follow instructions from air traffic control. Far from being an emergency, it is a routine procedure designed to maintain the highest levels of flight safety.
