Last Friday, Yaiza Ayuntamiento started the resurfacing of Calle La Gomera – the street that runs by the side of the bus station & sports centre.

Yaiza Ayuntamiento has prioritised the resurfacing of the road, which serves not only as the main access route to the Los Calamares residential complex and the Las Brisas apartments but will also provide a link to the newly constructed Calle Azores (the new road that extends the street running in front of the health centre.)

Ángel Lago, the Yaiza Councillor for Public Works, highlighted the necessity of the project. “Considering the deterioration of the road and the safety of drivers and pedestrians, we proceeded to asphalt it, also complying with a citizen demand,” Lago explained. “This week we awarded the Azores contract for 924,000 euros, so we will have a new access to the health centre that will improve traffic regulation in this area.”

Beyond the new Azores access road, plans include the construction of pavements, the channelling of the drain located on the adjacent plot, the design of a new sanitation network, and the re-channelling of public service networks.

Mayor Óscar Noda provided an update on the ambitious schedule ahead. “The start of the resurfacing and accessibility works on Avenida Papagayo, which we contracted for €2.9 million, is imminent, as are the comprehensive rehabilitation works on the entrance to Playa Blanca via Femés, on the section between the Plabacón roundabouts and the Marcastell residential area, for a further €1.3 million,” Noda confirmed. “Both projects have been awarded to the company Hermanos Tavío Santana.”
