Yesterday afternoon, the sunny southern town of Playa Blanca was transformed into a handbike racetrack for the thirteenth edition of the Vuelta Playa Blanca Handbike 2023 race.
The race participants enjoyed the support and enthusiastic cheers of spectators, who cheered them on with applause and encouragement throughout the race.
During the awards ceremony, the Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, highlighted “the municipality’s strong support for the sport, which we intend to continue promoting internationally, however, the most important thing is to raise awareness of adapted and inclusive sports.”
Yaiza’s Sports Councillor, Ángel Lago, also highlighted the race’s contribution to the local economy, “weeks before the day of the race, we see handbikers riding our roads, which implies expenses in accommodation, cab rides, meals and other tourist services that Playa Blanca is able to offer, apart from good weather.”
