Three dogs that were being kept in a filthy room without food or water have been freed by Arrecife local police and the Arrecife Centre for Animal Protection.
The dogs were being kept in the Lomo district of Arrecife, in a single room where they were “surrounded by excrement”, according to officers. The dogs’ owner has relinquished ownership of the animals, meaning they can now be rehomed. Currently the dogs are at Arrecife’s Animal Protection Centre, where they have been bathed and fed.
Confining an animal in this manner is against this year’s Animal Welfare Law, with fines of up to 10,000€ applicable. It is not reported whether any charges have been brought in this particular case.
