Many visitors spend their holiday close to the beach, but some of the island’s most memorable sights are waiting just a few kilometres inland.

Lanzarote’s resorts remain popular for good reason, offering easy access to beaches, restaurants and family entertainment. Yet beyond the familiar promenades lies a landscape unlike almost anywhere else in Europe.

Volcanic vineyards, whitewashed villages, dramatic lava fields and quiet coastal roads all help create an island that’s ideal for exploring at a slower pace. One increasingly popular way to do that is by bicycle.

Unlike travelling by car, cycling allows visitors to stop whenever a viewpoint catches their attention or a village café invites a break. It also offers a chance to appreciate the changing scenery that makes Lanzarote so distinctive.

Bike Sensations, located in Puerto del Carmen, offers several guided tours that showcase different parts of the island. The Timanfaya Tour takes riders through some of Lanzarote’s most spectacular volcanic scenery, with stops for photographs, coffee and local refreshments along the way.

Those looking for a gentler outing may prefer the Omar Sharif Tour, which follows a more relaxed coastal route before visiting LagOmar, one of Lanzarote’s most unusual landmarks.

The company caters for a wide range of cyclists. E-bike tours include the bicycle, helmet, multilingual guide and entrance fees, making them a straightforward option for holidaymakers who simply want to turn up and enjoy the day.

Experienced cyclists can also join regular road bike tours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while mountain bike rides are available on request and tailored to the group’s ability, weather conditions and route.

Visitors who already have their own itinerary can instead hire one of Bike Sensations’ professionally maintained bikes. From comfortable city bikes to performance road bikes and e-MTBs, there’s an option to suit everything from a leisurely afternoon ride to a full day’s adventure.

For many visitors, seeing Lanzarote from the saddle offers a completely different perspective on the island – one that extends far beyond the hotel pool.
