A third businessmen has confessed to bribing the ex-Mayor of Arrecife, Isabel Deniz, in 2005.

Enrique Hernández Martín , an ex-director of the FCC construction company, yesterday said that he had paid over €16,500 in 2005 for a eight-day Moroccan holiday for Deniz and several family members. The trip was a “gift” in return for being granted the contract to construct the sports pavilion in Argana Alta, Arrecife.

The admission was made during the hearing of the Jable Case in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which relates to several accusations of fraud, bribery and  corruption in Arrecife during the first decade of the century. Also on trial is Dimas Martín, the founder of the defunct PIL party, of which Deniz  was a member before defecting to Coalición Canaria.

Two members of the Urbaser waste disposal company have also admitted to bribing the Ex-Mayor in order to get lucrative waste disposal and cleaning contracts in Arrecife.

The Argana Alta sports pavilion was closed in 2013 for not having a licence.
