Firemen located a dead body during a search of the Famara cliffs yesterday. While the body remains unidentified, all indications suggest it is that of Miguel Ángel Gentile, the 41-year-old Uruguayan resident of Lanzarote who was reported missing on Wednesday.

After three days of intensive searching, organisers took the decision to limit personnel to firefighters with extensive experience of working in mountainous areas. The discovery was announced at around midday yesterday, apparently near the Punta de Fariones – the northernmost tip of Lanzarote.

The difficulty of searching on the steep cliffsides was highlighted 13 years ago, when the body of a British hiker was finally located at the foot of Montaña Gallo, eighteen months after extensive searches had been called off.
