More than 500 athletes took part in this year’s Basalto Rules and Telamon Rules competitions in Puerto Calero.
The event has expanded significantly since its launch two years ago, when 144 athletes took part. This September, more than 500 competitors from across the Canary Islands and mainland Spain gathered in Puerto Calero for the latest edition.
Basalto Rules and Telamon Rules are two separate events that share the same venue, creating a combined festival of cross-training. This year’s event was staged in the main car park at Puerto Calero Marina, where spectators turned out to support competitors throughout the competition.
The event received institutional backing from the Cabildo and Yaiza Ayuntamiento.
Basalto is a hybrid competition that combines running with strength and endurance stations featuring simple, repetitive movements, placing an emphasis on pacing, aerobic fitness and strategy. Telamon, by contrast, features more varied and unpredictable challenges, combining weightlifting, gymnastics, strength, cardiovascular fitness and technical skills.
Organisers said the latest edition further established Puerto Calero as the venue for one of Lanzarote’s leading cross-training festivals, while reflecting Yaiza’s growing reputation for hosting strength and endurance competitions in the Canary Islands.
