In an effort to bolster public safety, officers from the Arrecife Local Police conducted a series of targeted operations across the city’s nightlife hubs over the weekend.

The initiative, ordered directly by the Mayor and head of the Local Police Department, Yonathan de León, focused on ensuring compliance with licensing regulations and combating illicit activity.

The police deployments, which ran through the nights and early mornings on points along Calle La Inés, Triana, and Manolo Millares, as well as in several neighbourhoods, resulted in multiple sanctions. The operation concluded in the early hours of Saturday, September 20th, with one nightlife establishment facing a fine for breaching municipal ordinances.

In addition, officers initiated three separate proceedings against individuals for possession of narcotics, in accordance with Law 4/2015, the law for the protection of public safety.

A Clear Stance Against Drugs

A key objective of these intensified checks is to eradicate the sale and consumption of drugs in the city, with a particular focus on protecting younger residents. To aid in this effort, the Arrecife Local Police’s USCI officers were reinforced with specialist sniffer dogs from the highly-decorated Canary Islands Unit based in Arrecife.

Broader Compliance Checks

The weekend’s operations also included preventive checks on individuals in public areas and nightlife venues to verify compliance with the Immigration Law regarding illegal stays. The Arrecife Local Police recently enhanced its capabilities for such checks with new devices that allow for real-time consultation of police databases.

These coordinated actions underscore the city’s commitment to maintaining a safe and regulated environment for both residents and visitors.
