Yaiza Ayuntamiento has taken another step towards installing 24 new bus shelters in Playa Blanca after Mayor Óscar Noda signed a cooperation agreement with the Cabildo.

The project, which has been requested by residents for several years, has gone through several revisions. This is the third time Yaiza Ayuntamiento has signed an agreement to help move the work forward.

“We hope this will be the final one so that the work can begin as soon as possible,” said Noda.

The mayor said Yaiza Ayuntamiento had always cooperated with the Cabildo to get the project approved, adding that the existing bus shelters were outdated and had needed repairs for years.

He also highlighted the many complaints and requests from residents asking for better facilities.

“We hope that the project will now be put out to bid without further delay, because the residents and visitors of Playa Blanca deserve decent and comfortable rest stops,” he said.

The plans include 24 new shelters with solar power systems, LED lighting and passenger information displays. They will also provide protection from the sun and rain, making waiting for buses more comfortable and safer.

Yaiza’s Transport Councillor, Beatriz Vázquez, said the council believed the final plans were now ready.

“It appears we now have the final project plan, and we are confident it will soon become a reality. It is now up to the Island Council to issue the call for bids, award the contract, and carry out the work as quickly as possible.”

She added that the aim was to give residents and visitors better places to wait for buses, with protection from the weather and improved passenger information.

The project is also intended to improve the appearance of bus stops and create a more consistent design across Lanzarote.

Yaiza Ayuntamiento is now waiting for the Cabildo to put the project out to tender, award the contract and begin the work.
