Lanzarote Socialists have accused the Coalición Canaria of planning to “wipe out the beach between El Cable and Playa Honda with concrete and tarmac.”
The criticism refers to a proposal in Arrecife’s General plan to build 521 homes in an area overlooking the El Cable beach between Arrecife and Playa Honda.
The properties would be constructed in one of the most expensive areas on the island, prompting Socialist secretary Cristian Duque to ask “Who are they planning Arrecife for? For the families of Lanzarote who cannot access housing, or those who promote new constructions at prohibitive prices?”
She also claimed that the arrival of an estimated 1,500 new residents in the area would place more pressure on existing services, such as roads, sewage and water and electricity supplies.
