For homes and holiday properties where privacy matters as much as protection from the sun, drop arm awnings offer a practical option for balconies, pergolas and windows.
Finding the right balance between enjoying Lanzarote’s sunshine and escaping it when necessary can be a consideration for both residents and holiday property owners. On balconies and terraces in particular, there can also be the added question of privacy from neighbouring properties.
Drop arm awnings are designed with both needs in mind. Sol Y Sombra supplies these exterior blinds as a solution for pergolas, balconies and windows, with a design that allows the canvas to wind downwards to provide shade and privacy.
The double drop in the canvas can extend almost 180 degrees towards the floor, helping to create a more enclosed shaded area. This can be useful when a balcony or terrace is exposed to strong sunlight, while also giving occupants greater privacy from surrounding properties.
The awnings can be supplied with or without a box, giving property owners different options depending on the appearance and practical requirements of the installation. The canvas is also designed to help deal with outdoor conditions, with the supplied information noting that rain and dew can run off the Scotch-guarded fabric.
For a permanent home, a drop arm awning can help make an outside area more comfortable for everyday activities, from having breakfast outdoors to sitting with a cup of tea. For owners of holiday rentals, it can provide another practical feature for balconies and outside spaces used by visitors.
Sol Y Sombra is a family business with more than 20 years of experience in made-to-measure exterior and interior blinds. Its service covers the process from measuring through to installation, with products manufactured in Spain by trusted national and international companies.
Customers can visit the company’s showroom in Tias, opposite the Hiperdino supermarket, where there are catalogues, colour selectors and ideas for both homes and businesses.
With Lanzarote’s sunny climate encouraging people to spend time outdoors, thoughtful shading can help make balconies, terraces and other exposed areas more usable. For spaces where privacy is also important, a drop arm awning is one of the options available from Sol Y Sombra.
