Tías Ayuntamiento has fined 11 shops, bars and restaurants for breaches of waste management rules as inspections continue across the municipality.
The fines, ranging from €250 to €500, follow inspections aimed at improving cleanliness in the municipality and preventing rubbish from accumulating on public streets.
The violations included leaving rubbish bags outside bins, disposing of cardboard without folding it, and incorrectly handling glass and other recyclable materials.
Tías Ayuntamiento has reminded residents and businesses that rubbish bags must not be left on public streets or beside waste containers. Cardboard must be folded before being placed in the appropriate container, while glass must be deposited in the designated container without bags or other waste.
“We are taking action, stepping up cleanup efforts, and conducting awareness campaigns, but we need everyone to do their part. We cannot continually allocate public resources to clean up what others leave behind improperly. Keeping Tías and Puerto del Carmen clean is a shared responsibility and benefits residents, businesses, and visitors,” the council stated.
The council said police patrols and inspections will continue, particularly in shopping and dining areas. Penalty proceedings will also continue to be opened when breaches are identified.
The aim is not to issue fines, but to ensure compliance with waste management rules, improve cleanliness and prevent improper disposal from undermining the work of municipal cleaning services and the efforts of residents and businesses that follow the regulations.
