Aena has appointed Carolina Igal Oneca as the new Director of Airports for the Canarias Group, with the change taking effect on November 1.
Igal, a Telecommunications Engineering graduate from the University of Navarra, has worked for Aena throughout her career at Barcelona-El Prat and Madrid-Barajas airports.
She has been Madrid airport’s Director of Operations since 2023, having previously held several senior roles covering airport operations and safety.
Her recent work has included the introduction of remote-controlled boarding bridges at Madrid-Barajas, new European border control requirements and plans for the airport’s expansion.
Igal will replace Luis López Chapí, who is leaving the Canarias Group role at his own request after four years. He will continue working for Aena at Tenerife South Airport.
During his time in charge, López Chapí oversaw growing passenger demand across the Canary Islands and worked on major development projects at Tenerife North, Tenerife South and César Manrique-Lanzarote airports.
He also helped plan future projects at Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura airports and prepare the investment framework for the Canary Islands airport network.
Aena thanked López Chapí for his work and wished him well in his new role.
