The heatwave currently roasting the Canaries is set to continue, as AEMET has once again extended its yellow heat alert for Lanzarote. The alert now runs from 11 am until 7 pm on Thursday 24th of September and from 11 am until 7 pm on Friday 25th of September.
Temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius are forecast and could reach 37 degrees in some areas. The worst-affected area will be the southern half of the island.
The Canarian Government has also issued a state of pre-alert for the heatwave. A pre-alert means that emergency services should be prepared for situations relating to the situation, but if elevated to full alert status it could mean other measures are taken, such as school closures.
Temperatures are forecast to return to more normal levels over the weekend.
