NC/BC proposes limit of 500 cars a day for non-residents visiting Papagayo

The Nueva Canarias/Bloque Canarista (NC/BC) party have proposed limiting access to Papagayo’s beaches for non-residents to 500 cars a day.

NC/BC’s President, Yone Caraballo, said “The Los Ajaches natural monument and Papagayo are among our greatest natural riches. We cannot continue to see thousands of cars entering and even parking by the roadsides. Lanzarote needs to start putting limits on tourism growth when it puts our territory at risk.” 

The party pointed out that during busy tourist periods an average of between 1,200 and 1,500 cars enter the Papagayo area daily. They propose limiting access by a pre-booking system.

Lanzarote residents would continue to be able to access Papagayo for free under the proposals.
