The Guardia Civil are investigating a man charged with driving at 148 kph on a stretch of road where the limit is 60 kph.
The incident occurred in August on the road leading from Femes to Playa Blanca, when the speeding motorist was spotted by a Guardia Civil unit operating speed checks in the area. The driver was subsequently contacted and informed he would be charged with a serious speeding offence.
If found guilty, such a serious speeding offence could carry a prison sentence or community service order, as well as the suspension of a driving licence for up to four years.
