Maritime rescue services have picked up 79 people from two boats north of Lanzarote. Three dead bodies have also been recovered and one migrant has been airlifted to hospital.
The calm seas of September have brought an uptick in the number of pateras arriving at the Canaries, with another two boats containing 150 people being intercepted yesterday morning.
The rescue vessels arrived at Puerto Naos in Arrecife, where the migrants will be held at the processing centre.
