AEMET issues heat and calima alert for Lanzarote on Monday

Spain’s meteorological agency, AEMET has issued a yellow alert for heat and calima conditions for tomorrow, Monday 14^th September

The heat alert applies from 11 am until 7 pm, with forecasts of temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius. Inland areas of the island are expected to be the worst-affected.

The calima alert applies from midnight tonight until midnight on Monday, and predicts airborne dust that will reduce visibility to three kilometres. In some areas, that may fall to one kilometre.

The conditions appear to be caused by a shift in wind direction, with the prevailing northern alisio winds giving way to movements of air from the south-east. Normal conditions are forecast to return on Tuesday.

As usual, citizens are advised to reconsider outdoor activities that may be affected by the heat and people vulnerable to airborne dust, such as those with respiratory conditions, are recommended to remain indoors with the windows closed.
