A 60-year-old French tourist was evacuated from the Caldera Blanca yesterday after falling and spraining her ankle.
Emergency services were called at 1.05 pm, and a response team, including a helicopter, was mobilised.
Firefighters located the victim, splinted her leg and stretchered her to an ambulance.
The incident is the latest of several to occur on the route to Lanzarote largest volcano, the Caldera Blanca. The spectacular walk takes place over rough volcanic terrain and involves a risky ascent of the volcano over steep, loose rock and scree. Hikers are recommended to take great care, wear strong footwear with ankle support and will find walking poles or a stick very useful.
