Injured man evacuated from La Graciosa

A 50-year-old man was evacuated by helicopter from La Graciosa yesterday after being injured when a wave hit him.

The incident occurred at around 1 pm on the Playa de las Conchas, the beautiful, remote beach on the north coast of the island. Health workers on La Graciosa succeeded in stabilising the man, but the severity of his injuries mean that a rescue helicopter was mobilised.

The helicopter took him to the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital, where his state is said to be critical.

Emergency services have reminded visitors and residents that, despite its beauty, the Playa de las Conchas is one of the most dangerous on the islands, with strong currents and heavy waves.
