As summer eases into autumn, Puerto del Carmen offers the kind of weather that makes sitting outside with a cold drink particularly appealing.
There is something especially enjoyable about autumn in Lanzarote. The intense heat of high summer begins to soften, leaving warm days, pleasant evenings and a refreshing breeze from the Atlantic. For many holidaymakers, it is the perfect combination for spending an afternoon or evening outdoors.
Along the main beachfront road in Puerto del Carmen, The Beach Pub is made for exactly that kind of relaxed autumn day.
Unlike the enclosed bars familiar in cooler parts of Europe, The Beach Pub is open fronted, allowing natural light and fresh air to flow through the space. The result is an easy-going atmosphere where guests can sit with views of the sea, watch people passing along the promenade and enjoy the shade when the midday sun is at its strongest.
And there is plenty to choose from behind the bar. Draught options include Tropical, Madri and Coors beers, alongside Magners Irish Cider, making a cold pint an obvious companion for a sunny afternoon.
For those who prefer something chilled and a little slower paced, Torres wines are served cold with their own ice bucket. As the afternoon develops into evening, the sea views provide a natural backdrop for a glass of wine while the light begins to change.
Cocktails bring another option, with Mojitos, frozen Daiquiris and a variety of others available to enjoy while watching the world go by. And for anyone looking for something a little more celebratory, bottles of Prosecco or Champagne can be served chilled on ice.
The atmosphere continues into the evening with music videos spanning the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and today’s hits. The volume is deliberately kept at a level where the music can be enjoyed without making conversation difficult.
There are also coffees, soft drinks, spirits and snacks available, while four-legged companions are welcome too, with a bowl of water waiting for visiting pets.
September may mark the beginning of autumn elsewhere, but in Puerto del Carmen it can be one of the nicest times of year to sit outside, listen to some music and watch the Atlantic stretch towards the horizon.
