Five companies have submitted bids for a new waste collection contract in Yaiza, with the proposals now due to undergo technical and financial evaluation.
The deadline for submitting bids ended on Monday, August 10. The council is proposing a 10-year contract worth approximately 36 million euros.
Mayor Óscar Noda said the aim of the new tender was to improve waste collection across the municipality.
“The goal of launching this new tender has been to improve waste collection in all our towns, expanding and optimising the service with much more efficient measures tailored to the growth of both the resident and tourist populations.”
The contract specifications cover the collection of organic waste, general waste, household oil, bulky items, electrical appliances and yard trimmings.
A new feature will also be the installation of mobile recycling stations, which will rotate through the towns of Yaiza.
The successful company will also be responsible for collecting construction and demolition waste abandoned in public spaces and forming piles of debris.
The service will additionally cover waste generated at festivals, pilgrimages and any event organised by the Yaiza Ayuntamiento.
The council will now follow the established legal procedure by reviewing the documentation submitted by each company and carrying out a technical assessment of the proposals and their financial offers.
The process will then move to the award and signing of the contract, followed by the launch of the new waste collection service.
