Los Hervideros sinkhole repairs delayed until at least 2028

The sinkhole that appeared on the road to Los Hervideros is unlikely to be repaired before 2028, it was revealed yesterday.

Jacobo Medina, the Public Works Councillor for the Cabildo, told Lancelot TV that the repair project was fully prepared and all permits and licences had been arranged, but that the money for the project had not yet been finalised.

Medina said that, although the Canarian Government had earmarked €1.5 million for the repairs, another seven million was required. This money is unlikely to be raised before the end of 2026, meaning that the 12-month works are likely to be completed by 2028 at the earliest.

The road to Los Hervideros has been closed for over five years, since erosion caused by the constant pounding of waves caused the sinkhole to suddenly appear in 2021.
