Canal Gestión yesterday announced that the water supply to Tahiche had been suspended until further notice, due to a breakdown in the Norte 1 supply pipeline.

The company stated that time would be required to locate the problem, carry out works to assess the situation and repair the breakdown and reload the supply system with water, adding that it was not known how long this would take.

As well as Tahiche, nineteen other towns and villages in Lanzarote and La Graciosa were affected by water cuts yesterday. The areas affected included Haría, Yaiza, Uga, Mácher, San Bartolomé, Güime, Nazaret and Tao.

Constant water cuts in rural areas were one of the principal reasons for the Cabildo’s recent decision to declare breach of contract and end its agreement with Canal Gestión. However, an alternative operator has still not been found.
