The town of Yaiza has expanded its offering for families with the opening of a new inclusive playground and an adjacent multipurpose court.
The multipurpose court has been designed for football, basketball and handball, while the playground features inclusive play equipment and shaded areas. Accessibility improvements to the surrounding area, including lowered kerbs and pedestrian crossings, have also been completed. In addition, two parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility have been created next to the park.
Rubén Arca, Yaiza’s Councillor for Parks and Gardens, said: “The close collaboration between the Yaiza Ayuntamiento and Lanzarote-based associations and groups dedicated to social causes, whom we consulted and listened to during technical workshops to design and develop our Network of Inclusive Parks. Yaiza’s parks serve as a model in the Canary Islands and Spain for their variety of play equipment, safety, and comfort.”

The total investment in El Rincón Park stands at 700,000 euros, co-financed with funds from the Lanzarote Island Council’s Accessibility Plan. Meanwhile, Yaiza has already awarded contracts for the complete renovation of the Marcastell playground, budgeted at 197,000 euros, and the installation of shaded areas and improvements in Faro Park, budgeted at 110,000 euros. Both projects are located in Playa Blanca.
