Two wines from Lanzarote have secured top honours at one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions, earning a Grand Gold and a Gold medal at the 24th edition of the Bacchus 2026 Competition.

The Timanfaya Malvasía Dulce Natural 2018, produced by Bodegas Timanfaya S.L., was awarded a Grand Gold – the highest accolade at the event.

In another triumph for the island’s wine-making reputation, the Princesa Fayna Sparkling 2019, from Bodegas Vega de Yuco, received a Gold medal.

A Strong Showing from the Canary Islands

The success of Lanzarote’s wineries was mirrored across the archipelago, with a further twelve award-winning wines from the rest of the Canary Islands also earning recognition.

Among the gold medal winners from other islands, five came from the El Hierro: Mirador de Adra – 7 Marías White 2025, by Andrés Ernesto Acosta Armas; Elysar Baboso Black Red 2024, from Explotaciones Elisar; and three from the Sociedad Cooperativa del Campo Frontera – Viña Frontera “Louis Goudard” White 2024, Viña Frontera “Baboso Red” 2022, and Viña Frontera “Red Varietals” 2022.

Additional Gold Medals were awarded to the following wines: 4 Lías White 2023, from Bodegas El Lomo; Montoro Barrique White 2024, from Mario Rodríguez Mendoza; Vega Norte Albillo Criollo White 2025, from SAT Bodegas Noroeste de La Palma; and Flor de Chasna Naturally Sweet White 2023, from the Cumbres de Abona Cooperative Society.

Silver Medals for Three Canarian Wines

The competition also bestowed Silver Awards on three wines from the Canary Islands: Laderas de Montoro White 2025, by Mario Rodríguez Mendoza; Mirador de Adra – Hoya Grande red 2024, by Andrés Ernesto Acosta Armas; and Cumbres de Abona rosé 2025, by the Cumbres de Abona Cooperative Society.
