The upgrade of the Órzola port is set to get under way before the end of June, after Puertos Canarios awarded the contract for the first phase of improvements. Work will focus on replacing the low‑voltage electrical networks, upgrading the lighting system and modernising the water supply.
The Madrid‑based company Etralux has been chosen to carry out the project, which has a budget of approximately 92,500 euros. According to CANARIAS7, the work is scheduled to be completed within two months.
Officials confirmed that action had become necessary because the port’s current outdoor lighting system is in a state of disrepair. Beyond these immediate fixes, the initiative is expected to lay the groundwork for future projects at the site. New facilities are already planned for the period between 2027 and 2028.
Looking further ahead, once the already defined proposals go out to tender, work will be carried out in the port area to optimise fishing resources. A new passenger terminal building is also planned.
