Parts of Playa Blanca suffered from flooding yesterday after a highly localised rainstorm caused road closures and flooded garages.
The storm occurred in the afternoon, and followed earlier heavy rains in the mornings, leaving between 12 to 20mms of rain, depending on the zone.
The worst affected area was western Playa Blanca, from the Rubicón Hotel to Pechiguera, and emergency services were called to pump water from several properties in this vicinity. The extremely localised nature of yesterday’s storm is reminiscent of the freak storm that hit Costa Teguise last April, causing extensive damage and flooding.
Meanwhile, much of the rest of the island experienced far lighter rainfall of fewer than 2 mms in total. All weather alerts have now been lifted, and the tail end of Storm Therese is expected to depart this evening.
